GONG BATH

The sound of the gong creates deep relaxation, releasing us from the torrent of thoughts our mind releases and it stimulates the glandular system to a higher level of functioning.

Yogi Bhajan: “The gong is very simple. It is an inter-vibratory system. It is the sound of Creativity itself. One who plays the gong plays Universe. The gong is not an ordinary thing to play. Out of it came all music, all sounds and all words. The sound of the gong is the nucleus of the Word. The gong is not a musical instrument, not a drum. The gong is a beautiful reinforced vibration. Its like a multitude of sounds, as if you played with a million strings. The gong is the only tool with which you can produce this combination of space vibrations.”

Emotional Transformation During Gong Meditation

The gong impacts the body and it’s meridians. It releases blocks, reduces tension and stimulates circulation. The result is a reorganization of the emotional energy and feelings that are tied into the body structure. It helps to quieten the mind. The gong is said to cut through the ego, leaving a person to be their authentic self. It can help us to come into our neutral, meditative mind as well as increases our prana (our life force).

The advise before playing a long, deep gong meditation is to relax the muscles and let the sound of the gong penetrate the body and guide the mind. If you listen to the gong for 11 minutes or longer, do not drink any water for a half hour after the meditation. It allows the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems to interact with each other internally rather then turning their energy to another task.
